|It was back in 1965 when Ugo, then director of a butcher’s shop, and Alda, then a housewife devoted to her family decided to abandon their tranquil country life and build a mountain inn at 2752 metres of altitude. What prompted them? During my thirty years on the Lagazuoi summit, I have often been asked this question. Myself, my brother Paolo, and surely our children have grown up with alternate feelings of love and hate for such an important choice of life. Time, however has taught us how this magic place, nestled amidst the Dolomites, could bewitch an alpinist like my father. His glorious past as "Scoiattolo" Mountain Guide, his service in the Mountain Rescue and his love for these mountains have been key in his choice to set out on this adventure, rather risky from the economic point of view and quite demanding for the whole family. Alda followed her husband with her loving sense of duty and contributed with her knowledge of the local specialities and her deep sense of hospitality to the successful management of the mountain inn.
Much has changed in forty-five years of careful attention and modernization, but the spirit remains the one of our family tradition. When I look back to the past, many are the anecdotes, many the people I have met and the cultural exchanges I have had; this is what fills the lives of those who run a mountain inn with beautiful moments.
My thankful greetings to all those who have helped us.
